You really haven’t heard from us much since the
HealThy Mouth World Summit back in January.
Like a garden in late winter that seems to be very still,
but under the ground has lots and lots of activity, we have been very busy behind the scenes here at OraWellness.
Let’s get this started with some fun! 🙂
We’re giving away OraWellness products!
We’re about to introduce a really cool giveaway we’re going to do, but first let’s cover our update…
On a personal level…
We were so moved by the information the experts presented at the HealThy Mouth World Summit, we have been applying the information we gathered personally from participating in Dr Hal Huggins’ assist report.
We will share more on this soon and for now we want to say that being able to look ‘under the hood’ at the health of our blood and mineral analysis via extensive blood and hair analysis has been fascinating for us both! The assist report combines an extensive personal questionnaire, a blood chemistry analysis and a hair analysis into one report.
Incidentally, the reason why we chose to go through the assist report is several months ago Susan stated that she wanted to know the status of the mineral balance in her body so that she could stop ‘guessing’ about which supplements she needed to be taking. Well, this is one of the many things that the assist report addresses. Rather than being focused on vitamins, the assist report looks to help a person see where the various levels of minerals are in the body.
Here’s the really fun part… The blood analysis helps to understand the mineral balance in the blood, thus around the cells and the hair analysis helps to understand the mineral balance within the cells. So cool!
On a business level…
One of the reasons we have been so quiet since the HealThy Mouth World Summit is because we were completely overwhelmed by the positive response and wave of orders that the Summit created. I know, a good problem to have! 🙂 We’ve been very busy keeping up with the increased order demand while building systems to help OraWellness grow and continue to serve you all the best we can.
In this regard, we’re in the process of moving our order processing to a mainland fulfillment center. As much as we have enjoyed it, we have realized that we simply cannot continue to personally handle each of your orders and share all the new information via blog posts and video tutorials we want to make for you. This also means that you will get your orders even faster than us shipping them from here in Hawaii!
We want you all to know that we are taking great care to make this transition an awesome shift. We have received so many wonderful compliments about our ‘Packed with Aloha’ flower that we’ve figured out how to keep this fun, personal touch on every order, even though we won’t be personally handling every package. Since we realize that Aloha is a state of the heart, a state of connection and love, we feel it still applies to have each order ‘Packed with Aloha’!
We’re also keeping to the recycled mailers as this is a value and ethical statement for our business. We can have successful businesses that really help others AND that do their best to walk softly on the earth. We are so grateful to be among this new breed of conscious businesses.
We’ve also figured out how to include a free Bass toothbrush here and there in your orders to continue to exceed your expectations as our wonderful customers!
Please know that we are working very hard to get the systems in place to handle your orders attentively so that we can once again turn our focus to the important (and fun) stuff like researching strategies to create awesome oral health, write blog posts, create new video tutorials and bring you more Summits! 🙂 If you ever feel dissatisfied with how an order reaches you or have any ideas how we can improve on our ability to deliver awesome products and information to you, we are ALL EARS!! Please email us at info (at) orawellness (dot) com or call us directly with your ideas.
For those of you who made it this far into this article, here’s the giveaway information! 🙂
OraWellness Giveaway!
We are going to give away five OraWellness starter kits after we return from a quick trip to the mainland this late May. (Incidentally, we’re going to be shooting a video with an AWESOME dentist! More on that later…)
To enter in the giveaway, here’s what to do:
1. Please comment below this blog post sharing with us what’s the biggest question about oral health you currently have.
2. Share about us. Post something (positive hopefully 🙂 ) about OraWellness on your facebook, twitter or pinterest pages.
We will pick the winners on or before June 1st and notify everyone here.
Click here to see the OraWellness starter kit
As always, please holler with any questions, we’re here to help!
Thank you and Aloha!
Will and Susan
Heather says
My biggest question is can cavities be reversed in baby teeth as well as adult teeth? And if so how to efficiently do so? Thanks.
Will says
Aloha Heather,
Thank you for stopping by to ask us. We are honored that you have asked us for our opinions on this subject. Cavities can most definitely be reversed. Not only superficial cavities in the enamel, but even deeper cavities into the dentin.
There is much to be said how to go about this. Please check out our free video tutorial course titled, “the 5 Steps to a Healthy Mouth’. It will give you a great place to start this journey. You can find the video course on our site at OraWellness.com > Educational Videos > 5 Steps to a Healthy Mouth.
I hope that helps! 🙂

Nice post. I was checking constantly this blog and I am impressed!
Very helpful info specially the last part 🙂 I care for such info much.
I was seeking this particular information for a very long time.
Thank you and best of luck.

My husband still has some of his baby teeth. Its there anything he can do beside srgery. We don’t have dental insurance. And it very painful any suggest.
Dabblertante says
I too am interested to learn more about baking soda and am ordering the brushing blend today. All of the other questions have sparked an interest in learning the answers, as well.
Kelly says
When removing the amalgam fillings what can be done to prevent any side effects?
Doina says
Thanks for the update. Glad to see you’re doing so well. I don’t really have a question, just a comment. Since I’ve been brushing with a homemade tooth powder and your Orawellness blend, I have seen a decrease in plaque. On my last teeth cleaning, the hygienist was pleasantly surprised that even after 8 months I had so much less plaque than I usually do. You have a great product and thanks for sharing it with us.
Laura says
We love the blend..very much so!
My daughter,11, has some cavities and looking at different options on how to avoid the ” drilling”‘..Any suggestions will be much appreciated. She does oil pulling, however not as often as I would like.
Ashley Stewart says
I’ve heard that if you aren’t flossing properly it can cause more harm than good. I would like more info on flossing…tips, techniques, etc. Also any info on TMJ would be great.

Monica says
My biggest question is about fillings. I had decay under a filling for years that grew and I did not feel anything nor did it show up on X-rays. How do I know if one of my fillings is having issues if it doesn’t show up on X-rays?
I love the orawellness brushing blend. I have noticed very little plaque and my mouth always feels fresh. I bought some for my brother who is having gingivitis issues and he is noticing less swelling and little bleeding.
Marina says
I am trying to stop my teeth getting worse. I follow remineralize tooth decay book, but my teeth still get tooth erosion at gum which is getting worse. It does not look like decay and not always sensitive. My teeth were always very bad do to unknown celiac disease for years. I brush my teeth with just water in the morning and with coconut oil in the evening and sometimes add a bit of baking soda.
It looks like I have problem with magnesium levels. I think it is one of the problems. I have enough calcium and it even builds up at lower bottom teeth inside which I need to scrape of once in 2 weeks or so. My dentist said that it is a positive sign since it shows that I get lots of minerals in my saliva to remineralize my teeth. Though something is missing. I don’t know what besides magnesium. I am taking magnesium supplement for 2 months, but still did not see much of difference, though my teeth are not sensitive now. Any help will be appreciated. (follow animal based diet GAPS, organs, seafood, broth, FCLO, HV butter, homeopathy cell salts, no grains and very little nuts, no sugar, some fruits.)
Anne A says
I love your products. Can you recommend a good natural floss to use with your product?
Holly says
My question today is if there is a “one size fits all” answer to oral health and wellness, or if it has to be customized to the individual? Can everyone in my family use all the same products to get great results? Thank you!
Leah says
what to do about receding gums. Also tongue health.
MARIA says
After reading about the dangers of metal fillings I am wondering if I should be concerned about the screws and metal plate in my mouth. Unlike a filling I can’t just have them removed. 🙁
Erin T says
My husband has several cavities; is remineralization really possible? How can it be accomplished?
Sue says
I am trying to fix a cavity, but I am unable to access raw milk and fermented cod liver oil. What would be my best course of action?
Marina says
Eat liver 2-3 time a week and seafood (oysters are very good for teeth), bone broth, other organs, and grass fed milk butter. Seeds and grains are hard on tooth and raw not soaked nuts, so best to avoid them until you see cavity was healed. Fruits are too sweet too. You might stay away from them as well. You can make kefir from pasteurized grass fed milk. It brings life to cooked milk. Sell salts #1, #2, and #12 (6X). I had cavities that healed, but I can’t figure out what is still missing in what I do. My teeth have erosion at gum line and so far it was getting worse. I started taking Magnesium supplement and sell salt #8 and it took care of sensitivity; maybe that was the missing nutrients for me. Hope this helps.
renee lightsy says
How do you balance the advice of your dentist with natural/wholostic tooth and mouth care? The dentist is able to examine you and use his professional training to advise you appropriately on the issues he can identify. How is one supposed to go about utilizing natural remedies when the advice we get is western based? I am slightly uncomfortable with simply transposing ailments based on internet research and research free opinions. Are wholostic dentists the only way?
Monica P. says
I have a crown that probably has metal inside. I’m wondering if I should have it removed and what a safe replacement for it would be.
Jan says
My question is whether I can help a chipped tooth and prevent it from chipping further…will it remineralize like a cavity?
Monique M. says
p.s. I shared this post on my Facebook page, but as everything is friends-only, I’m not sure that you will be able to see it!
Monique M. says
My question about oral health is: can you reverse gum recession caused by overbrushing (even when I have stopped overbrushing)? I’ve done quite the number on my gums and teeth by going at them too vigorously with the toothbrush.
Latricia Friend says
Great presentation on the SexyBack Summit. Ordering the Brushing Blend today.
Can you show the tongue scraper? What is it made of? Can it be purchased by itself?
Terah says
I have a general curiosity about teaching my children how to properly brush, flossing their teeth (how do I do it without hurting them, since I can’t feel it…and when and how to teach them how to do it). I so want to raise them to care for their teeth well, along with all that I strive to teach them about eating well and caring for the rest of their bodies.
Ceara says
Is there any steps I can take to help my body re-grow gum tissue? I had laser surgery and the dentist removed a lot of my gum tissue before I found natural solutions to gum disease. Now my gums are healthy and I’d like to help my body regenerate the lost tissue if possible.
Thanks for the great giveaway!

My son got fluoride drops as an infant and now he´s got fluorosis and his permanent teeth are all stained and mottled. What can be done to help him?
Emma Greenslade says
Hello, Really loved the Summit, and so happy that I’ve got the hard copies because I refer to them surprisingly often. One question that I still had after it was: What do you do about absesses?
We have 4 kids at various stages of teething, and then my partner has two girls from a previous relationship who come and stay with us in the weekends. Gosh I really notice the difference diet makes, I had my sons too close together. They all planned me, even though we practice natural fertility. So I felt really inspired to nourish myself as best I could throughout pregnancy and then I feed them well too. I am happy to report that I have no fillings even though I have a few pits, I feel comfortable with just watching them.
One of my partners daughters had an absess under her front tooth and I gave her silicea 30c a few times, but her mother took her to the dentist and they gave her anti-biotics. I am sure there would be some home remedies you could do, like poultices etc. These girls live on a vegetarian diet and find it difficult coming her as we eat hardly any shop bought foods. We eat fresh fish and roe, deer, roosters, lamb and lots and lots of eggs. Almost a Paleo diet. It’s facinating watching them grow up together. Emma Auckland NZ
Kathleen D. says
How do you get rid of stains caused by herbal teas and herbal liquid vitamins?
Naomi H says
My biggest question with oral health is children’s teeth. My one year old has teeth that are crumbling. Her twin does not. They’ve had the same environment since day one. I’m actually feeling rather frustrated and hope that all my dietary attempts at health will show up in their adult teeth at least. If they have bad milk teeth does that mean their adult teeth will be bad too?
Lindsey H says
Two questions I have:
Any suggestions for a brushing solution for kids’ mouths? We use Orawellness brushing blend but it’s too “zingy” for our 1-year-old, so we just use water so far.
Also, I’d like some clarification on what to do if you are pregnant/breastfeeding and want to get your amalgam fillings removed. Is waiting the only good option, or would pumping while detoxing be an acceptable alternative?
Will share the giveaway on FB.
Yvonne says
I’ve one tooth in particular that every dentist thinks needs a root canal because they see a shadow in the root area. Is there a way to heal this? It’s been 3 years so far since it was first seen.
Billi says
Hmmm, I feel like I could ask so many questions. I loved the oral health summit. I went to a new dentist after listening.
I guess my question would be, I use coconut oil and baking soda to brush with, is this enough to keep my teeth in good shape?
jennifer says
Wondering what are alternatives to root cancels? Also bummed I missed the mouth summit.
Ann-Charlotte says
My biggest question about oral health is probably one without an answer LOL
How did they ever come up with the idea that fluoride was good for your teeth, does anyone know? Why do they think that the little effect the fluoride has on preventiving cavities is worth so much more than all the not so good side effects and therefore adding it to the drinking water so people have no choice whether to use it or not?
I’ve stopped using toothpaste altogether, I clean my teeth with only water most of the time, twice a week I use baking soda. I do, however, have some problems with bleeding gum sometimes and would love to try the OraWellnes starter kit as I’m confident that it will take care of my problems.

How can I salvage my 19 month old sons teeth! They are crumbling and I have been working so hard to help them but its taking so long and I am afraid of taking him to the dentist because I don’t know if their suggestions will be the right thing for him or not! I guess I need to know what dental interventions (aside from using amlagam and performing root canals) are beneficial and what are not.
Julie Clement says
A few months ago, my dentist told me I have a tooth that may be dying or dead because it is starting to discolor. Is there any way to save it if it is not dead yet? It does not hurt but looks discolored in photos.
Diva Goes Organic says
I still have a lot of questions about natural options for care of the mouth and teeth. I feel like I don’t have all the knowledge I would like to have. My mom is a dental hygienist and is very mainstream when it comes to oral health and I wish I could sound more educated when I tell her the reasons I do or don’t do the things I do. She’s very concerned that I don’t use fluoridated toothpaste and will not use fluoride on my daughter when she is older.
carolyn says
can i also use the pets stuff on my teeth and vice versa 🙂 They have zinc gluconate product to spray on food or teeth, and a seaweed to eat – ascophyllum nodosum powder ( a common enough food additive – you’ll see it in yoghurt in enough concentration to help adult teeth )
Ama says
How can I tell if I have cavitations? What are the bodily signs?

What is the cure for periodontal disease? I have done everything including healing my adrenals and thyroid, correcting my nutritional deficiencies, chelating heavy metals, eating the best diets on the planet (WAPF, GAPS, Cure Tooth Decay) and have listened to hundreds of hours of lectures by doctors, dentists, naturopaths, etc and subscribe to every gum/tooth journal and yet still the answer alludes so many?
Thanks for all you do!
Marie says
I’m wondering how I know when my body is ready for my mercury fillings to be removed. Worried about my liver, etc.
PATTY RODGERS says
I have serious periodontal disease. I’ve begun using some great products in hope of saving what teeth I have left. From abscesses to lost teeth to throat issues, I’m anxious to “heal thy mouth.” Thanks for doing the giveaway! Fingers crossed!

Have you thought of a more kid friendly blend? My son says that it is too spicy for him.
Cristina Pinto says
There are white spots on my teeth….will these ever go away? Are there any supplements that help with receding gums?

How does adrenal fatigue affect oral health?
Vicky Flint, RDH says
Will & Susan –
The biggest question about oral health I currently have is (I actually have TWO)- 1- how to help people prevent or even reverse recession. That’s the one thing I haven’t been able to make headway with.
. . . and 2- How can help more people, like the people who’ve commented above. I could reply to nearly every one of them with information and over-the-counter resources to educate them and help them. However, that seems inappropriate as I am a guest on your website.
I would LOVE to win one of your giveaways so I can try your products first-hand, and therefore recommend them to my patients! I am practicing independently in Colorado, something we’ve had available here for a long time. In my own practice, I am freer to discuss creative solutions and love, love, love helping people find their way to better health!

Is it possible to regenerate a nerve that. Has died? I’m taking a tooth protocol to manage the infection and hope the nerve, if possible, will regenerate. any thoughts or info?
Sarah says
I missed the heal thy mouth summit, but I am interested to find out how to cure gingivitis naturally.
Brian says
Thank you for making a product that does not contain those harsh chemicals. I am convinced that my receding gums are a result of not learning the Bass brushing technique sooner, harmful chemicals in ordinary toothpaste and strong alcohol mouthwash. However, I am confident that with Orawellness products that the healing is underway!

Having spent my fortune in my mouth–the latest being 2 new crowns just 2 days ago–I’d love to know what I can do to avoid cracking any more teeth. Most are already crowned, but I’d like to keep the remaining intact ones in good shape!
Cindy Green says
I cannot afford to have my analgram fillings removed. My insurance wont pay for composite fillings. I just had one half of my mouth redone with the bad stuff but refuse to go back in for the other half. I started on one bottle of cod liver oil and noticed a huge difference in the pain on the side I didn’t have done but now cannot afford to buy another bottle. My teeth were breaking off but are not now. I think I will go back the other way without the cod liver oil…and what to do about the analgram fillings????

My biggest question on Oral Health is: I have an amalgam filling and I want to get it removed. I know that some mercury will be released when it is removed. I’m breastfeeding still. Should I wait until I’m done breastfeeding to have it removed?
Kelly says
My biggest question is – Does eating processed sugars have an immediate negative impact on tooth & gum health, and if so, why/how does that work?
TaiLeah Madill says
I am wondering if it is truly possible to reverse tooth decay and to prevent it. I have been plagued by cavities and red, bleeding gums since I was a kid. I just thought that was my lot and that there is nothing I can do but the traditional treatments of drilling, filling, and capping.
Angela Salazar says
Is it healthy to have a root canal?
Anuradha says
I loved the summit! Learned so much. I was just wondering why the very tips of my teeth (the front few) won’t stay mineralized. They start to get solid and then they start going see-through again. I haven’t noticed any patterns and we’re eating wapf/paleo, lots of raw milk, cheese, butter, FCLO and healthy organic/grassfed meats.
charyn says
One of the greatest questions I hear is what to do if you need a ROOT CANAL or had one. we’re all aware root canals are not good. we all need a clear, concise list of the safest holistic options (pros and cons to each one if any). Is extraction the best, but then that seems to have its own issues. I’ve tried to research and it’s confusing. So for me, what do you do if a pre-teen(child) needs a root canal even after 2nd and 3rd opinions? That’s even more confusing of the best options. Thank you for hearing from us all and reading our concerns.
Diana Martina says
Heard about you in the Healthy Home Economist. Went to the dentist with a chipped tooth and came back with peridontal reports of margins 3-11!! Yikes. A bit terrified, but with wise management and those wonderful bone broths, I think this thing will be reversed. Your article on Sarah’s blog brought me from despair to great hope, as I realize the truth of remineralization. My doc will be shocked too. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us!

Do some people have a certain type of bacteria or something that makes them more prone to decay? Hubs and I grew up with similar lifestyles, while he has a mouthful of fillings I’ve never had a cavity.
Molly says
I fell on my face when I was about 9 and knocked one of my front teeth. We went to the dentist, got x-rays and did a sensitivity test. From what I can remember they said it was partially dead or maybe they said it was dead. They said to watch it, and if it discolored a lot or caused pain in future I will need to get a root canal. It has very slightly discolored (yellow) and every now and then causes slight discomfort, I wouldn’t call it pain. It just doesn’t seem like there are any good options to replacing it. But I’m a little nervous that it is causing a lot of toxicity to my body. I’m secretly hoping that as I start eating more nutrient dense foods and taking cod liver oil, it will just heal on its own.
Ryan Thomas says
I’ve had sensitive teeth for the last 5 years. Usually if I eat any citrus fruits my teeth hurt for a day. I’ve used Sensodyne in the past. Will the Orawellness blend help protect my teeth from sensitivity or get them to a place where they’re no longer sensitive?
Mia McGregor says
My question is if glycerin is really bad for the teeth. I’ve heard that it prevents them from re-mineralizing. Also if it’s better to brush before eating or after eating. Also what to do with small holes in the teeth? I saw a tiny hole in mine…And also how to have the whitest teeth and freshest breath ever. lol
Jessie Thomas says
I have mildly receding gums on two of my teeth. I’ve been using your products for about a month (and love them!). Can I expect the receding to heal or just stop getting worse?
Olive Kaiser says
Hi,
I am chagrined to find that several of my cavitations which I had redone by a reputable, conscientious Huggins trained dentist have recavitated. I know this happens frequently even with good dentists. I have a focal strep infection in my tonsils so maybe that is why, even with an unusually good diet this has happened. Wondering what to do. I know of a holistic dentist who recently started packing the cavitation holes and leaving the gums open, repacking them daily for a number of days to be sure they heal without reforming infections. Has this worked for other patients/dentists, and I am wondering if I should request this procedure if I need to redo the surgery? Also any other methods to help heal these trouble spots?

I have been using your bass brush and brushing blend for a few months now. Not sure how long exactly, but I have brushed my teeth for the past 15 years with sensitive toothpaste because of my teeth sensitivity. So I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t be able to deal with the sensitivity without using the old toothpaste. To my surprise all my sensitivity is GONE, after using your wonderful product!!! I can’t say thank you enough. My question is how is that possible? Also, how do I get my two young boys (4&6) to use the brushing blend? They don’t like the taste 🙁

I’m the only one in my family that has decent teeth and that’s not saying a lot. I have had problems since I was a child with a lot of cavities braces for 5 years just recently had 2 implants and 5 crowns. Seems like for whatever reason every six months when I go to the dentist they’re findin 3 cavities. They even gave me a prescription to get a fluoride toothpaste. Really would love to have the starter kit I just recently went to school to become a Health coach and would love to be able to help other people in a natural way with her oral health. Both my parents lost teeth and had false teeth in their forties. This I do not want to be me for the last several years I have been trying to use natural products. Thank you for your consideration!

What’s the best way to naturally care for INFANTS’ mouths? (Even conventional dentists can’t seem to agree with regard to little ones. I’ve consistently read that little ones should see the dentist as soon as they have teeth. But I’ve never had a dentist that would see a child under 3.)

Do your receding gums heal or do you only stop the progress? Bought a Bass toothbrush and have used it for 3months and like it. Interested in the OraWellness blend
Ellen Peterson says
My main question has to do with dairy: is straight raw milk too sweet for some people’s systems? Some have found it to be a vital component in healing their teeth, and others avoid it completely. For my own children, it seems to me that whenever they are drinking (raw, local, cow or goat) milk daily, their immune systems go downhill and they get colds and mucus. I heard a nutritional consultant say recently that milk and meat contain so much phosphoric acid that they do not contribute to mineral absorption. Do they acidify the system or what?
Judy says
Your video on using the drops with the bass brush seems to be cleaning where the tooth and gum meet. Do you go back and clean the tooth after that? Does the oil help with remineralizing the tooth enamel? Thanks!

My family just “woke up” to the world of a traditional diet, (plus Weston A Price, bone broth, fermented cod liver oil etc.) about a year ago. We tried to remineralize my little boys two huge cavities from our former sugar-diet, but haven’t been successful because the damage was already too deep.
I personally love the ora wellness blend, but we can’t get my son to use it because it is too “spicy” for him. I love and appreciate any new info on the prevention of dis-ease and health of kid’s teeth as it seems a whole different world than an adult’s teeth.
Lisa P. says
My biggest question is how to remineralize teeth.
Grace Cho says
My biggest question is what are ways to treat and take care of periodontal and gum issues, holistically? Both internally, eg: supplements or food sources, as well as what to possibly put on gums. How does oil pulling fare for this?
Many thanks!

Thanks so much for all you do and the information shared. So difficult to find factual information so your efforts are appreciated.
I have a few questions that I would very much like to get information on:
-how does menopausal transition affect oral health and gums? I had massive gum recession over a span of two weeks and was advised that this was due to being in my menopausal transition stage.
-Is there any way to reverse gum recession?
-what is the connection between adrenal functioning and oral health? With menopausal transition, my tired out adrenals who are still recovering from an adrenal burnout due to overwork and are now having to take on a new role. How is this affecting oral health?
-is there a way to whiten teeth naturally? Over the years, my teeth have become yellowed and not as attractive. I want to avoid the chemicals in conventional tooth whitening kits and laser whitening but would like whiter teeth again. I read that brushing with activated charcoal will whiten teeth but am wondering about abrasiveness and any negative effects of this.
Thank you.

Hi!! I would LOVE to win the starter kit!! I have been to 2 dentists in the past year. Both had the same prognosis – due to 50 years of bad nutritional health all my teeth need to be pulled. That is what they want to do. For the past 2 years I have been eating to the WAPF nutrient dense diet. Changing my ways and taking FCLO/Bone Broth/good saturated fats etc. My teeth are not in any pain and I will do anything to change this prognosis. My question is: That I have 4 bottom teeth with mercury fillings. Where do I find a dentist that will know how to care for the mercury in my teeth? AND One who practices dentistry with the principles that you guys talk about? Not looking at your teeth as teeth but as a whole body unit. Am I making sense. Thank you for all you do! You guys Rock!! 🙂

Whats the best way to prevent cavities? I don’t want my little one to get any and I don’t want to get anymore. I have about 5 and they all used to be filled with mercury, but I’ve recently gotten them taken out and filled with a resin composite I think it’s called and supposably safely. Theres only one mercury-free dentist here where I live as far as I know.

My question is very similar to Connie’s above. I have a ton of amalgam fillings from my childhood. I can’t afford to just get them all replaced (and I haven’t been able to find a biological dentist in or near Southern NH) Is it ok to just replace them as they wear out? Also, some of the fillings are large so I’m not sure if there would be enough tooth material left after removing the amalgam. I don’t want a mouth full of implants!
Thanks for all the helpful info you provide! It is much appreciated.

Is it better to leave cavities in baby teeth, or have a pulpectomy, or have them removed and put in spacers? My 9 yr old has had two removed already and there are two more with severe decay that we didn’t see because it was between. If they are removed she will need spacers. Can that be worse, to introduce metal in the mouth?

My biggest concerns are my children’s teeth. We are trying to get a handle on cavities (we have some severe decay) through a traditional diet but I am constantly worried about it. I now hate going to the dentist and discovering more problems.

Can you remineralize an adult tooth that already has a filling/fillings?
What can you do to increase the amount of saliva in your mouth. I’m not taking any meds but after menopause mine as decreased significantly.
What helps with nerve damage from an abscessed tooth (tooth was removed). This happened 3 yrs ago after having the tooth filled – had weird symptoms – took 3 mos before knew it was infected.
Love all the energy around these issues. Thanks for making this happen

I realized from the HealThy Mouth World Summit the dangers of the amalgam fillings. My lingering question from that is, since there are absolutely zero naturally-minded dentists in my area, and I don’t seem to have cracks in the fillings, how important is it to worry about having these taken care of in the short term. And what I still don’t understand, is one the fillings are out, what are they filled with??

I loved the summit and I hope you do one annually! I have been trying to get my mom to order your product, her dentist makes her undergo deep cleans and I don’t like that!
My biggest questions are how to approach wisdom teeth? And if, when, and how to replace fillings with safe material….and what is safe?
myra says
I have been learning a lot and your oral health summit coincided with my questions. I have been changing my diet, supplements over years secondary to gut issues and candida. Despite changes, still occasionally have yeast issues. My question would be the link in amalgam fillings and candida and how much prevention do you need before having the fillings removed (supplements, blood testing)
alison kenyon says
my biggest question is now that we’re using these tooth products with everyone in my family (and my teeth are now much whiter and feel no ‘fur’ at the end of the day), does the tooth product help remineralize teeth on its own even if the kids are not eating all the truly good stuff like bone broth? liver? etc. yes, they’re grain free, sugar free 9 days out of 10 but are products without fluoride (which i believe is evil, too) a good step for their teeth if their diet is not closer to perfect?

How do I make changes for my adrenal health? The other changes?
If there is a 90% chance of gum disease over age 30, then it is diet borne, not something caught or genetically passed, right?
another question: how do I make sure my veggies are clean enough to eat? I’m sure that has something to do with oral health, no matter how fast I inhale my food…

Wow–I am grateful for all you’ve done! I am also impressed that you use ethical mailing packages. I just opened an order from a purportedly natural and environmentally-conscious company, and found the box filled with Styrofoam “peanuts”. I wish the shipping aspect of the businesses I wish to support were not taken for granted.
Anyway, I am glad to know that the Summit was such a good experience for you. Thank you for sharing your success with us.
I guess my most haunting question about oral health regards my partner’s apparently superhuman ability to resist cavities. In eleven years, I have only known this man to have one cavity filled; the rest were small and they healed before the dentist filled them. This would be a no-brainer if my partner’s nutrition weren’t abysmal, but he eats primarily processed food. Further, his oral care habits are lazy.
Meanwhile, I eat more mineral- and nutrient-dense foods than he does, and otherwise take better care of my mouth, but my teeth are in bad condition. (I am working to address this as well as I can afford by using the Weston A. Price nutrition approach.) I wish I had my man’s healing ability!
How does someone who has been eating junky processed food for most of his life have a powerful enough immune system to fight almost all cavities?
Sorry for the complicated question. Thanks for your time and for the good work you do.
(I will tweet about OraWellness! I just don’t want to link my URL here. Could I email you the link to my post, or…? I am not sure how to proceed.)

I’d love to know all the “sneaky” names for BPA. I have a dental night guard that my dentist instructed me to wear a few years ago, and I wear it almost every night. I tried to find out if it contains BPA, to no avail. I could not find the info.
Also, I’d love to know what to look for as far as fillings for kids’ teeth, as my daughter is about to go to the dentist for the first time and I’d love to know what to ask if they want to give her a filling (if she needs one).
Thank you!

I’m not on social media, so can’t promote you there. However, I have done so verbally and in e-mail.

My youngest daughter had very soft baby teeth. By her 2nd birthday her teeth were crumbling. The front teeth were the worst. By the time she was 4 she called them her shark teeth. She was nursed until 4 1/2 (she said it hurt her teeth when she nursed). My other two kids did not have soft teeth. The only thing I could think of was that I was pregnant with her in Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan. The darkest months in the year. Could my low vit d level at the critical time have made her teeth not strong?
I was not sick with fever any time during the pregnancy. Her’s was the easiest of the three.
The other question is what can I do to make sure her second teeth don’t crumble away. I have Nagle’s “Cure tooth decay book” and have read some of W. A. Price. Just want to cover all the bases

Since stumbling upon the Healthy Mouth summit, I have started a traditional diet and lifestyle with my family. I decided to use the GAPS protocol to try and heal my baby’s eczema. Except all the meat and veggies we eat have left us with demineralization. I noticed that the ends on my and my toddler’s front teeth are translucent. The gaps between my toddler’s teeth have also widened. Even though we were eating soup made with bone broth and taking Great Lakes gelatin. We have started supplementing with minerals and my toddler’s teeth are back to opaque but the gaps haven’t changed. My teeth are so translucent on the tips. I stopped oil pulling with EVOO (heard that pulls minerals out too, ugh) and started using coconut oil. I just want to know if we’re on the right track. I’d like to know if putting my young boys and me on GAPS is doing more good than harm.

How to deal with sensitive teeth. I think caused by wrong toothpaste and mouthwash choices (now changed to natural alternatives), but oh, my goodness how my teeth are so sensitive! all along the gum line (front ones are okay, it’s just the sides top and bottom). My diet is super healthy, no processed sugars, all natural, unprocessed, no dairy, gluten, wheat, lots of veggies, bit of fruit, raw superfoods (e.g maca, lucuma, spirulina, cacao, goji berries, bee pollen, raw honey, chia seeds, super greens powders, ground flaxseed, etc), pasture fed eggs, meat, free range organic poultry, oily fish, seeds, nuts, coconut oil and milk, loads of water. i could go on!! Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Also, what’s the best type of toothbrush? Electric or manual?
How often should you see a dentist for a check up and scale and polish?

Thanks for the wonderful oral wellness summit ! It is amazing how oral health is so closely tied to overall health.
I had my mercury amalgam fillings removed a year ago by a wonderful bioligical dentist (Dr. Paul Rubin) who took all precautions possible to reduce exposure to mercury as he removed it. He asked me to have my naturopath suggest a protocal for detoxifying my body of any residual mercury which I did. I started seeing a nutritionist a month ago who says that I have another layer of mercury toxicity which my body is ready to release. My question is how long do you think it will take to detoxify to a level at which vibrant health will return? I was hoping for better health restoration last year when I had my amalgams removed. Lets start with a very important basic question – what is the healthiest toothbrush to use, all things considered? For example, there are a few rare toothbrushes that are “BP-A Free”, but its reported that most manufacturers who take out BP-A just substitute another equally dangerous substance like BP-S or BP-N. I read that something called a Miswak Stick is the best option. What’s the consensus on this?

As always I thank you both for your work. Impeccable timing of this give-away for me. My one question right now is in having a Total Dental Restoration done, one of my teeth was very decayed and drilled down to the pulp (in preparation for a bridge). It may not make it and I may need to have this tooth pulled (learned on the Healthy Mouth World Summit that this is the solution and NOT a root canal). I am wondering what I can further do to help the tooth heal? Trying all I learned with diet, supplements (from Dr. Huggin’s Assist Report – which is a tremendous help), Oil Pulling (with Coconut Oil – thank you Dr. Fife), and of course using OraWellness to brush, floss and rinse daily, etc. Any other ideas would be great. My biggest question is what do you do if your dentist says you need a root canal—-what is the other option? Please, please its been 5 months since the root filling doctor examined my tooth and refilled with a temporary filling but then I heard the oral wellness summit and they say its no good for your body—but what do I do instead. my question is when you have extractions because you are told there is no other way to save the tooth unless having a root canal (i opted to pull as i couldnt afford $2000 plus for that tooth) the dentist had said the teeth beside will be more prone to cavities, they seem to have developed really fast, how do i stop the process? and my teeth have been feeling chalky/sticky the past few weeks for example certain spots attract food to stick as opposed to just getting stuck inbetween teeth, is this loss or enamel? and what is a safe toothpaste for families with young children…i should say fussy children? Do you think this is the case? I have bad digestive problems due to mercury toxicity but I’ve had a dental revision with Dr. Grube so i’m still healing and detoxing. My biggest concern is knowing what my next step is since I have a mouth full of crowns, fillings, and spaces from missing teeth. Everyone needs to know about OralWellness, especially families with young children so they can start early with healthy oral care.

How can I strengthen my son’s baby teeth which seem to be crumbling?
Oil pulling is awesome and so are bass toothbrushes.

Stumbled across you via the Summit and a google search for tooth decay in children… ah it pains me so much that no matter how much I’ve fought to brush my 3 year old’s teeth, there is still continuing decay. Then I started learning about dietary potentials and now I’m eager to try some of your products as well. I’m hopeful that via re-mineralizing teeth and cleaning out the “bad” bacteria in my child’s mouth, as well as my own, we can avoid costly dentist bills *crossing my fingers* Thanks for putting out there all the amazing info I’ve come across!

Hi, I was using a Sonicare toothbrush for several years and recently noticed my gums are receding and I am having sensitivity with cold drinks and foods. I’m afraid the Sonicare toothbrush is the cause. I thought I had the best toothbrush. My dentist wants to do deep cleaning and planing, but I refused treatment at this time. I want my gums to heal naturally. What do you recommend? Daily oil pulling with coconut oil?
Audrey says
Since my last visit to my dentist, my teeth seem to have become very sensitive. Painful when I have something hot or cold. I never had this before so I find it a bit disconcerting. Would love to try your products to see if they will help with this. About 6 months ago I had the last of my old fillings replaced, could this have something to do with the sensitivity?
Stephanie says
The biggest question I have right now about my oral health is…how do I go about finding a dentist who is willing to help me prevent problems…rather than just treating them. None of the dental professionals I see are willing to have that conversation with me.
Anna says
So many questions…
Can I whiten my teeth naturally? Is oil pulling the only way to remineralize your teeth?
dave says
I didn’t notice much last time on gum health. Mine seem to be on the receding side. Usually back and forth between making my teeth sensitive and okay. I’d like to know more about this.

How do you fix teeth with three different levels of problems? One is calcium defiency, one is lost enamel and one is hard enamel 🙁 my teeth look horrible and I just want a pretty smile that I cam be proud of.
Ann says
My sons have braces and have used the toothbrushes and love them! One of them has a “calcium deposit” (according to my dentist) and was told that they could whiten his teeth after his braces come off. What are you thoughts about these “calcium deposits”, how does one get these spots off of there teeth? I would also love to find a holistic dentist in my area. It seems that it is difficult to find some in my area as well as other states. Maybe all holistic dentists can work together, come up with a link that would provide these type of dentist that are holistic for our health and reasonsable in there prices as well.Thank you so much for helping us all!

How can we get more Dentists on board with Dr. Huggins denistry & make it more mainstream so insurance will cover?

The questions already asked above are great! I want to know the answer to some of those too! My question – what oral health process/program and products will keep the teeth healthy and free of tartar so we never have to get a cleaning again?!
Alicia Espinosa-Cook says
I am so excited for my entire family to begin using your products. I have heard so many great things, and I just know that it is going to improve our mouth health tremendously. My question would basically pertain to why my 7 y/o son’s dentist insists that Fluoride is safe, and necessary for my son’s check ups? I refuse it every time, but not without her insistence that I should give in.

Loved the summit and I did not miss a bit of it. My question remains even coming out of the summit as to what to do when you already have had a root canal and are concerned about the dead tissue. Because of 8 cracked molars with large fillings, I had to have them all capped last year. I no longer have any mercury but still concerned about the root canal. It was done 10 years prior to last years work. Thanks for your work!

A big question I have currently relates to oral health and children. My little ones had their first visit with the dentist yesterday and I am concerned about the way in which their adult teeth are coming in. Would increased oral health help with something like the spacing of new teeth coming in, or is it related mainly to the size and shape of the palate?
Laura says
I am interested in canine oral health. What can I do to lessen the chances of my dog acquiring periodontal disease when he has stopped chewing bones and resists brushing?
Annie Lindstrom says
My current concern is as I age, how do I deal with my crowns as they need to be replaced. Is the new Cerac technology safe? Or is there something else? What are the alternatives? Do they all cost a fortune?
Thanks!

My main question/concern is how to give my children super oral health for life.

How can your toothbrush makes such a difference in oral health?
Cassie Byers says
Hi there, I just went to the oral hygienist yesterday. She tells me I have a crack in one of my molars. Will a better oral health regime assist with ensuring my tooth doesn’t crack into pieces one day. Can I repair it with a good diet, or is it likely this is beyond repair?
Kat says
I loved learning about all this! Thank you for making it available to anyone! My question is how to care for damaged kids teeth? What are the options for baby teeth? let them fall out, cap them, root canal? Are there other options besides root canals (they call this something else but it’s essentially the same thing) for kids? How do you explain/prove that you are taking care of your kids teeth even though they don’t “look” perfect (such as having visible but hardened “cavities”)?
Gina says
I am thinking about getting my almagam fillings removed. How can I make sure my mouth is in the best health so I have minimum problems?
Lauren says
My biggest oral concern currently is trying to find a holistic dentist less than an hour away that accepts insurance! Seems impossible. I’m also concerned about the baking soda in my homemade coconut oil/calcium/baking soda toothpaste, as I’ve heard it can wear your enamel down over time. Is this a realistic concern? I can’t imagine it could do that much damage. Thanks!
Karen says
My biggest question is: where can we find the answers to all these interesting questions…some of which I also have?
The second biggest question is this: I have been making fermented foods for several months now, eating it with every meal. Is this possibly going to impact the enamel, and should I be doing anything about it?
Derek says
Like with many things regarding “alternative” health care, many times our decisions come down to money, which we’re quite strapped for! We feel we’re taking good care of ourselves and children, but the biggest question we have is regarding the current metal in our teeth. We have no dental insurance, and we’re concerned that the metal needs to go!
My wife had horrific dental care in her earlier years, and we finally found a dentist who we like in our adult years, but she does not have anything “alternative” in her practice. The question we have is where to go to best find someone affordable that can help us with a plan for ongoing dental care that in in line with our own alternative approach to overall health.
Thank you!

I love the OraWellness products and have noticed less sensitivity at the gum line since I started using them. But I’m also curious about how gums heal and if the process of gum recession can not only be halted, but if that tissue can regenerate over time.

I would like to whiten my teeth a little (too much tea to drink, and that isn’t going to change) but don’t want to wear down my enamel. I’d like safe suggestions! 🙂

Apparently activated charcoal works for a lot of people. My teeth have whitened up a little after a week or so of using it. Here is a link to the Healthy Home Economist’s website about the method:

I have recently read that baking soda is not a good addition to homemade tooth “paste” because it removes tooth enamel with continuous use. I have loved the baking soda I put in my coconut oil/baking soda/essential oil blend. Since I read that about the baking soda, I made a different paste using coconut oil/Bentonite clay and Real Salt. I don’t think it cleans my teeth as well. It certainly doesn’t leave them as white and shiny. Does baking soda ruin tooth surfaces as I read???

My question would be how to avoid gun disease? I thought I was taking good care of my teeth but ended up with gun disease. The periodontist of course said there is no cure and the only option is gum surgery.

My biggest question is learning how to remove calculus and hopefully help gums heal in a 43 yr old, as well as help our 3 yr old with tooth decay to avoid fillings…what necessary, most effective steps to take first with an unemployed husband’s income.

Hi! I recently discovered that my saliva is acidic, and I was told by the dentist that so little is known about saliva that it would be difficult to pinpoint the cause. Ultimately, he told me to rinse AM & PM w/baking soda & water. So, my question is, since this seems like a band-aid solution, what might be the cause of acidic saliva…dietary or other? Thanks!

My biggest question (although I have seen some information on it through your resources) is about impending root canals. I had several before I learned what I know, and unfortunately my local dentists insist on them. One dentist wanted to give me a root canal for every old filling that slightly cracked my teeth (three molars). I won’t do it, but what would be the best course if it’s more advanced and they tell me it’s an absolute necessity (like they did the last three)?
BTW, I shared your terrific giveaway on Twitter and G+ so far. Plan to share on Pinterest, too!

Hmm I was just at the dentist today.
So if I have a question still, I would be a numb skull. 😀

The largest question living in me right now is how to balance the need to engage in a digestive health diet regiment (GAPS, for example), and also re-mineralize my teeth with a food protocol in tune with that suggested by Ramiel Nagel. We are wanting to eat nutrient dense foods (especially dairy) and also see our bodies need to eliminate most foods and re-begin with simply bone broths every day! This is coming from a young family who is SO devoted to good foods, permaculture, and raising our children with the perfect diet! All this work and still the journey deepens…..I share a deep deep gratitude for my ability to engage with health and wellness on such profound levels!

The biggest question about oral health that I currently have is:
“What causes or why do I get so much oral ‘slime’ overnight when using my CPAP machine, whether I use the water chamber or not. Also what is the best way to clean my teeth and gums quickly in the morning of the thick gooey slimy mess to keep my breath and teeth clean and odor-free at the start of my day?

I am loving the bass toothbrush and the orawellness brushing oil!! My question is how do we find these holistic dentists and how do we know if they are the “real deal”. I got mercury poisoning after having my fillings removed and it has been a genuine struggle to get my health back…i didn’t even know what had made me so ill until recently…the orawellness summit was a huge factor in my education and i hope it becomes more mainstream!! thanks for you efforts and love filled service!

What interesting timing! I just went to the dentist this morning and it turns out a I likely have an abcessed tooth. My front left tooth has gone from being sensitive to having sharp pain shooting internally with temperature change or pressure. She said I’d probably need a root canal but start with abx. Grrrrr-everything I want to avoid. And I’ve been following a grain free, sugar free, grassfed meat & butter, free range egg, organ heavy diet with homemade toothpaste for the last several months. Anyway, would love any help I can get–any natural means I can use? Can I prevent a root canal if it’s infected? And if not, what sorts of tests will a dentist need to do to determine necessity (I understand many are unnecessary)? What sorts of questions should I ask?
I have FCLO and will take that and was planning on grabbing some garlic and oil of oregano. I have to go through my insurance due to costs and don’t know of a holistic dentist in my area.
Thanks!
Marie says
You might look into adding butter oil from Green Pastures. It works symbiotically with the FCLO to heal cavities and is a much more concentrated source of Vitamin K than grass-fed butter.
Alissa says
You may also want to consider swishing with colloidal silver regularly. My family does this and we’ve all seen marked improvement at our regular dental cleanings. I also echo the butter oil and FCLO. I added that to my diet as an experiment. Last November, the dentist wanted to drill a cavity they found with the DIAGNOdent. At my recent May visit, the reading had improved and they said I didn’t need a filling on that tooth! I credit the three things I mentioned.
