It is with sadness and respect that we acknowledge the passing of Ramiel Nagel.
Those of you who have been on the holistic oral health path may know Rami because of his excellent book, Cure Tooth Decay, which he first published in 2010 (incidentally, that’s the same year we launched OraWellness.com).
Despite condemnation from many professionals in the field, Rami continued to research and relentlessly illuminate the works of Weston Price, Melvin Page, Edward and May Mellanby and other great pioneers in the field of holistic oral health.
For those of you who don’t know Rami’s story, he turned his attention to researching holistic oral health when his eldest child’s front teeth began to decay and crumble as a toddler. Like so many of us, he thought, “Why is this happening? We’re eating organic foods and whole grains.”
The two gifts Rami gave humanity…
We’d like to acknowledge Rami for two gifts he has given us all.
First, Rami questioned the cultural story around tooth decay.
Amidst the stress of watching his child’s baby teeth crumble, rather than just following the cultural story we all know so well (that tooth decay ‘just happens’ and diet has very little if any impact on whether our teeth decay or not), Rami questioned this story and sought to find a solution for his daughter.
Keep in mind, Rami didn’t know of the works of Weston Price and others at this point in his life. This took great courage and insight to question such a deeply ingrained cultural story with no proof.
Second, once he found the gems he sought in works like Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, Your Body is Your Best Doctor, Degeneration, Regeneration, and other excellent books, he committed himself to this study, compiled his research and shared it with the world. This is no small feat!
In his life, Ramiel published several books, including: Cure Tooth Decay and Cure Gum Disease Naturally, as well as a third book titled, Healing our Children.
While we are sad that we never got to meet you in person, Rami, it’s been such an honor to work side-by-side with you on the same mission through the years.
In appreciation for the work Rami has done for us and so many others, we share the interview we recorded with Rami back in 2012 for our HealThy Mouth World Summit. The title of his interview is, “The Role of Food in Healing Tooth Decay”.
We invite you to watch this video for free here. Like our eulogy for Dr Hal Huggins, we plan to keep this video free so that everyone can benefit from it.
Thank you for your determination and desire to serve humanity, Ramiel. May your work continue to help others who are seeking answers regarding what role diet plays in creating optimal oral health.
(If you have trouble watching this video here, we have also made it available for you to watch on YouTube.)

Thank you. He is one of my favorite writers. Such a unique talent, to make loads of technical information fascinating. Bravo Ramiel ✨️

I was excited about his book and diet until I learned about his passing. Help me understand how this could be a good diet if he developed and died from Cancer.
Chad at OraWellnesss says
Aloha Laura,
Our current updated understanding is that Ramiel passed away from a brain issue, perhaps a tumor in the brain stem.
Ramiel’s work to help the world have a greater understanding of the foundational role that nutrition plays in oral and whole being health is based upon the pioneering nutritional research of dentist Weston A. Price.
Thank you for your interest in Ramiel’s work. Aloha! 🙂
Jeanne says
Laura, people who develop brain cancer often live near cell towers.
In our rural area some 15 years ago a doctor asked me how come we have 5 rare brain cancer in children…and they ALL lived within a mile from a cell tower. So not sure if that was Rami’s story, or a lot of time on cell phones ? Former CEO of Nokia cell company who died of brain cancer issued a video warning about impact of what his company sold – cell phone. And I personally can testify to Rami’s book, that helped my teeth beyond my wild dreams. My mouth feels calm, and happy, despite many dentists messily ‘practicing inside of it for many years.
Maria says
Are you going to do another healthy mouth world summit? There are so many health summits lately but none for healthy mouth. Thanks for everything you do.
Will And Susan says
Thanks for asking Maria!
Maybe some day. Honestly, we don’t prefer the summit model as it only gives attendees a short window to access the helpful information for free, then put the education behind a payment gateway. So, we’ve chosen to do regular expert interviews and just make them free to all 24/7 as part of our ongoing commitment to assist our community along your path.
Would you prefer the expert interviews in a summit style format?
Thanks again!!
Susannah says
Gee, I had no idea he had passed! Totally shocked. Does anyone on your end know if toasted sesame oil has phytic acid, or know who I can ask? It is not listed on the WAPF site that Rami did. May you rest in peace, brother.
Chad at OraWellnesss says
Aloha Susannah,
Thank you for stopping by to pay tribute to Rami.
The percentage of phytic acid in sesame seeds is about 1.4–5.4% (source). However, I’m not sure if toasted sesame oil also has phytic acid.
If you reach out to The Weston A. Price Foundation to ask if toasted sesame oil has phytic acid, they may be able to give you an answer. Here’s an article by Rami on phytic acid: Living With Phytic Acid.
To explain a little more, it’s my understanding that almost all of the phytic acid in a nut/seed/grain is in the germ. So, for example, almond oil does not contain phytic acid because almond oil is not extracted from the germ—it’s extracted from a different part (the meat) of the nut. I’m not certain that the info I shared on almond oil also applies to sesame oil, but I thought I’d share it anyways in case it helps point you in the right direction to get a more definitive answer.
Finally, in case you’d like to check it out, here’s a blog entry that will provide more insight on how phytic acid that is ingested can act as an anti-nutrient and affect our oral (and whole body) health: What Foods Undermine Our Oral Health and Why.
Aloha! 🙂

Hi all, this is one of Rami’s daughters. I know this post is quite old, but I have been thinking about my father so much, July 28th is coming up. I think about him everyday, and it’s still very hard to see negative articles about him, but I’m very grateful to have articles like this one!

How can we reverse cavities on molars on toddlers ?
Will And Susan says
Hi Maria,
Thank you for asking us. It’s an honor for us to assist your family to greater oral health.
Here are some resources to assist you along your path. We hope they help!
First, go download our free ebook How to stop tooth decay and remineralize your teeth. That has a tremendous amount of helpful tips and strategies to assist you with your toddler.
Second, here’s another article that you may find helpful.
How to create a healthy brushing routine for your toddler or young child.
We hope these help you along your path!
Tia says
wow! Kind of shocking he died. So many alt docs who go against mainstream seem to mysteriously die, in increasing numbers it seems. Very sad.
Mary Bradon says
Forgot to add how grateful I am to him and devastated to hear of his passing. I have had several cured cavities and my children have never had a single cavity (and are terrible about brushing) I hope that his work/research is protected and secured. I’ve heard of too many stories of destroyed labs/research work, deaths, etc from pioneers and those finding the truth.

I wish to thank you for this sad yet important notice of Mr Nangels passing. I have loaned Cure tooth decay from the library. And it is helping me become more committed to my oral health.
Sad to learn of his passing. Very grateful for his passion to teach us.

Thanks for publishing such a nice tribute to Ramiel. Or as we called him…Rami.

Will And Susan says
Aloha Malka,
Thank you so much for sharing more of Rami’s story here.
We are so sorry for the loss to your family and to the world.
You must be very proud of the contribution Rami made to the world. Truly, that’s all really any parent can ask for.
Thank you and Aloha!

I spoke to him and he did not have cancer.
Will And Susan says
Aloha Nichole,
Thank you for offering your input here.
Our current undated understanding is he passed from a brain issue, perhaps a tumor in the brain stem.
We so appreciate the contribution Rami made toward the world having greater understanding of the foundational role that nutrition plays in our oral and whole being health.
Malka says
Wow. when did he tell you that?
Malka Nagel
I read the MRI report. He had such a rare type of Brain Stem Cancer that usually litle kids get.
Carrie Willard says
Could fermented cod liver oil have anything to do with it?
Ella says
Hi why would you say that cod liver oil?
And ive only just joined, what a shock to hear he has passed away, from cancer no less. Bit in shock.
Poor family.
Evan says
Given what I am learning about “vitamin A”, I would say yes. This engineer from Canada is shattering every single belief about retinol and exposing it for the toxin it becomes when we ingest too much. Seriously, folks, read these free ebooks and learn because this might go down as the biggest health screw-up ever (and when combined with what vaccines do, I think the pieces are falling in place).

Yeah, you might need to inform yourself in earnest. I am a researcher. I have also tested on myself Mr. Nagel’s research conclusions based on Dr. Weston A. Price studies. All I have to say – in 60 days 5mm gum pockets years in place reduced to nothing. I am forever thankful to Mr. Nagel. And I like many others who have realized the truth of his observations will disseminate his knowledge and kind devotion far and wide. Thank you!!
Curious about Ramiel says
Do you happen to have his obituary? I can’t find it anywhere online. It is so difficult to understand how a person so knowledgeable about health and healing could be taken by cancer.
Prayers for those that love him.
Will And Susan says
Thank you for offering your input here. We don’t have his obituary.

Christine Maxton says
I don’t see this news anywhere else but here. Nothing on him passing on a Google search.
Richard Dolesh says
Although I never met Ramiel Nagel, I was grieved by him passing. Because he was a true hero! And I think everybody else, knew instinctively that he was brave and courageous to stand up and question conventional dentistry wisdom, that says we are powerless to affect the health or direction of our teeth / health.
Because of what he did in the face of a crisis (his daughter’s tooth decay) And how he transparently shared and helped sooo many others! Including giving hope to myself and my family!
I pray that countless others will stand up and start humbly, yet boldly going, in faith, as God would direct each step to start changing and educating our country and world about true nutritional wisdom! About the benefits of a Weston A. Price diet, and also health freedom from horrific vaccines, and pesticides, from the horrors of misinformation by companies that promote such products.
Amen!
Shu-Lin Englert says
What a big loss to the world! This is very sad that he leaves us so soon! I would really like to know the cause of his passing. Perhaps we can all learn from the cause. Best wishes to his wife and family!
Donique Browsh says
Very sad to hear about Ramiel’s passing. I think I first heard about him through your summit several years ago which took my belief in the importance of nutrition to a whole new level…and that is saying a LOT! Ramiel’s book helped me redirect our family from supplements to focusing more on whole foods and was a frequent reference and also importantly a big source of emotional support as I nursed my husband through 4 tooth abscesses. I would not have had the knowledge to even attempt that or the courage to stick with it through treatment if I hadn’t read Ramiel’s book. We owe my husband’s four teeth (two the first time, then two others at separate times) to Ramiel. Our VERY holistic dentist wanted to pull the first two!!! I was a nervous wreck telling her that we wanted to wait and see if we could heal them nutritionally which we successfully did )after much pain and suffering and complete terror on my part). I never even sent my husband to the dentist for the second two abscesses. What a sad loss of a very brave person. Thank you from my family to yours, Ramiel, and also to Will and Susan. This is such important work. Best to you all XXOO
Natalie Nedblake says
Hello there,
I am dealing with a tooth abscess and want to heal it with nutrition. I am told it can’t happen by all dentists even the holistic ones.
Would you be willing to share with me how you were able to beat the abscess?
I would truly appreciate it.
Natalie
Jeanne says
Nattalie, I see your question about abscess. I have had a couple of those, and after I have learned about holistic way of treating them I have none. Oregano oil on gum worked for me, It took about 2 weeks, 1 capsule orally in the morning, 1 at night, and applied on gum. But very important part of healing it was NO Sugar. I owned 2 Rami’s books, and feel saddened by his so early passing. What an incredible man ! So deeply researched everything, and made it available to us in his books, and also so generously on his site. I sent many to that site, and suggested they get his book as an all time classic for their library.
Big thanks to you, Rami’s mom, and family ! May Rami’s soul feel all the love you, and we who love his work, feel for him.
Valerie Ozsu says
Will and Susan thank you for leaving his presentation open for others to hear and thank you for all your education and work.
Valerie Ozsu says
i had the honor of meeting Rami a few years back at a local meeting in our area. I met him and his family and they were incredible to visit with. When Rami gave his talk on dental health (and I saw his son’s healing teeth) I was inspired and it gave me more fuel in working with my clients and improving my own dental health. We as a nation have duped in so many ways and at that time it was even harder for me to face these truths without being incredibly angry as I was working as a Nurse Practitioner in the medical field. I was angry that in my training and day to day life we are fed so many lies by corporate education, medicine and food conglomerates.
At the end of the talk Rami shed some tears as he talked about his passion to help heal people whenever possible. I was especially touched by his passion and his incredible display of emotion. I too, have broken down telling a group of practitioners my healing journey and I was always embarrassed by this act. To see him shed a few tears actually gave me strength to know that being a public speaker it is ok to be human and show it publicly. I have never hesitated to cry with clients during an intense and emotional encounter but I always thought I should be strong and stoic when public speaking. That was what drew people to me was my compassion and caring along with my professional skills.
Not knowing of Rami’s recent parting I just purchased his other book curing gum disease because I continue to learn so much more working with clients in my wellness center and the importance of dental health in their healing protocols.
Recently, I reversed a cellulitis in my face and after scrutinizing the events that led up to it I am certain that a food allergy was behind it all (not to mention having poor dental health in my youth). I have worked tediously over the years to improve my dental health and overall health but the fact is that many of the pathogens can lie deep in the bone tissue longer than we realize. Thank goodness for my Holistic Dentist Dr. Visse Storm who gave me ozone injections plus some other treatments that I used on my own to help reverse it. I never used any antibiotics during this episode, and if you had seen how swollen my face was you would have thought I was nuts (as others did). I’ve worked too hard to repair my gut and I was willing to work harder using products and procedures to reverse this to avoid the damage that antibiotics cause.
Rami you’re our guardian angel now and an inspirational guide who will live with me for the rest of my life. Sincere condolences to Ms. Nagel and children. I pray his love will give you strength to endure his absence.
Judith Bartlett says
Dear Valerie,
What a wonderful post, thank you so much, I am tearful reading it, in several places. And congratulations to you on your persistence and success healing the cellulitis recently without using anti-biotics.
Many blessings to Ramiel and his family and all who follow his lead, and use & share the information he so courageously and inspiringly gave us. People like him, and you, make me glad to also be human.
Thank you, all who shine your light for the benefit of others
With love, Judith

How did Ramiel die? He wasn’t that old.
Candace Suarez says
Thank you for announcing Ramiel Nagel’s passing. My heart holds much gratitude for him and his work. Upon hearing about him at the HealThy Mouth World Summit, along with other pioneer greats as Hal Huggins, I am fortunate to have been recovering my health since 2010. Blessings to him, his family and may his work continue to inspire all to health and wellness.
marsha says
when did Ramiel die? cause?
Tim says
Rare brain stem tumor.
Quoting his mom on Cheeseslave:
“Hi
This is Rami’s mom. Thank you for your tribute. Nice photo of him – one I have not seen.
Yes Rami lived a healthy lifestyle. He practices [sic] what he preached.
He had a rare brain stem tumor. Nobody knows why. I don’t think it can be attributed to anything environmental. It is a type of tumor they mostly see in young kids. Somehow a cell that usually turns off when we grow a little just kept on growing. Maybe he lived so long because he was so healthy?! We will never know. See my tribute to him on Facebook. Even though it does not relate to the subject at hand.
Malka Nagel”
Katie says
Please let us know how he died. I had no idea.
Allen says
You honour your comrades, how noble of both of you. God bless.
Annika Rockwell says
I’m so sad to hear of Rami’s passing. I am a big fan of his books and saw how passionate he was at educating people at the WAPF conferences. He was such a kind and wise man with a peaceful energy about him. He was far too young to pass. All my best wishes and condolences to his family and daughters.
Eric Davis says
Dear Will
Many times we hear of leaders passing but the circumstances are never discussed.
What was the cause of death
Will And Susan says
Aloha Eric and others asking.
We don’t have the details confirmed yet, but we believe that cancer was the cause of death.
Thanks for all the blessings for Rami and his family!
Antonia says
Gosh, I am beginning to wonder when cancer ISN’T the cause of death. I lost my wonderful husband and soulmate “big sister” as well as my mother and another sister to this awful condition very recently. I won’t say Rest In Peace to Rami as I believe those who have passed want to live it up rather than rest. But sympathy to his family and all who knew him through his great work. A true pioneer and excellent human being. Thank you for this post Will and Susan.
