Hi – I wasn’t sure where to post this question. I listen to many podcasts/summits – but have never really heard this addressed. Would love to hear your ideas. Thank you, Debbie (I also posted on the homemade toothpaste discussion thread at Everyday Paleo).
Thanks for this fantastic discussion/information. Anyone have any ideas about excessive tarter build up on bottom front teeth? I eat almost no carbs except veg (i.e. no sweets unless with Stevia), follow a pale diet (hi fat, lots of minerals from CLO, seaweed, liver, etc) , yet have this ‘imbalance.’ With heavy build up by 6 month cleaning. I’ve heard Dave Asprey say it is excess dietary toxins or a mineral imbalance. I sure hope I don’t have excess calcium settling out elsewhere (my dietary calcium intake is actually a bit on the lowish side, which is in line with Professor Cordain’s research but is likely OK due to lack of anti-nutrients (and well into my 50s I’m doing very well on the DEXA scans) with my general bone strength.
Any ideas of what to try? I will copy and ask OraWellness directly at their website as well. Thanks in advance!

Aloha Deb,
We find that excess build up on the inside of the front bottom teeth is very, very common. I believe the cause is lack of vitamin K2 in the diet. Given that you are eating a paleo style diet, I would highly encourage you to check the amount of quality animal liver, quality egg yolk and butter (if you eat butter) as these foods are highest in K2.
Research shows that when we have sufficient K2 in the diet, plaque production decreases by up to 95%! This has been my finding when I make sure to have sufficient K2 in my diet. When I do, I ‘grow’ very little if any plaque on my teeth.
We hope this helps!

Looks so interesting! I’m just now learning about holistic denistry. I’ve got a filling leaking mercury and am so leary of just anyone taking it out.

It has been an amazing week listening to the experts. I did not get to listen to all the speakers so purchased the upgrade as I did not want to piece a single gem. Midweek I took three of my grandsons for dental appointments and requested that they not be given fluoride at the end of the appointment. The dentist tried to explain to me the benefits of fluoride and how the stats show that children living in areas without fluoridated water have many more cavities. As I learned this week knowledge is power so I did not buy the party line.
I also feel very blessed to have access to a water treatment that uses food grade hydrogen peroxide. I had commented on this during the week. The SanEcoTec system hooks up to your water source so you not only drink it and brush your teeth with it but you get to shower in it, too. We were just at a workshop on it on Friday and there will be lots of dental applications, too.
I thank you for this wonderful week!!!!

Thank you so much for all the information we have received this week at the Healthy Mouth Summit. We appreciated the expertise of all the presenters and will be following up on their books, web sites, and other resources for a long time to come. Thank you to the folks at Ora Wellness for all their hard work at putting this week together, we really apreciate you folks! 🙂 We learned so much about oral heath this week and about dentistry in general. The hard part will be finding dentists that put these principles into practise here in Canada.

Thank you so much for creating HealThy Mouth for us and making it available to stream for free! Im looking farwrard to owning them. So many questions I’ve had for so long were answered clearly, however, there’s so much info I missed!
I cracked a tooth/amalmom filling right before my 2 month journey through South East Asia of which i just retured from to find this gift of healThy mouth!! Timing!!!! This problem resulted in really bad tooth decay as I was not able to eat my normal traditional diet while traveling. My question; Could you tell me the 2 best foods to prevent tooth decay? Or which expert mentions it! I’m just trying to stop this tooth from getting past the of no return!
Josh
Thanks so much!

Aloha Josh,
I hope you have figured this out by now (I’m just getting to these comments! 🙁 )
If I had to suggest two diet related actions to take to stop decay, they would be:
Eliminate sugar from your diet (or at least 6 days a week and allow yourself to have a treat once a week)
Eat moderate amounts of animal protein at each meal. These two steps will take you farther than any others we know.
Thanks for asking!
Aloha,
Will
