BrushEco reduces personal plastic consumption
An estimated 1 billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown away each year. And that’s just in the USA!
We need to reduce the plastic burden that we all create in the first place.
As consumers, we have the power to align our purchases with our long-range values to reduce plastic consumption. Even our smallest daily actions can wind up making a big impact.
As a business, we take our environmental responsibility seriously. When new options become available, we continue to refine our products and packaging to reduce or eliminate the plastics that they contain.
BrushEco is made of 99.97% biodegradable and compostable materials.
The handle is made of bamboo, which we chose because:
- It's grass, and it's one of the fastest growing plants on earth.
- It thrives without the use of pesticides.
- It’s beneficial for the soil.
- It's highly renewable.
- It produces 35% more oxygen than trees.
We also chose to use steel staples to hold the bristles in place (no nasty glue chemicals here!).
If we all make the shift to sustainable toothbrushes, we can prevent 50 million pounds of plastic from entering the waste stream.
The only part of BrushEco that does not decompose on its own are the bristles. (And just as soon as sustainable tech provides us with a compostable bristle solution, BrushEco will be 100% biodegradable. :) ).
Even the packaging is more sustainable: BrushEco comes in a compostable vegetable cellulose bag inside a post-consumer recycled paperboard box.

BrushEco creates healthier mouths (and bodies)
By the age of 30, over 90% of adults have some form of active gum disease (aka "periodontal disease" or "periodontitis").
And, a whopping 65% of children already show signs of active gum disease by the time they're 15 years old!
Since researchers have linked gum disease to all kinds of whole-body health issues like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, and Alzheimer’s, this is a really big deal.
Thankfully, there's hope!
